The Black Church has been instrumental
in the African American community since the days of
slavery. While becoming a Christian didn't really change
our position in America, it helped provide some sanity
to an insane situation. And ever since then, the church's
influence in the African American community has grown
with no checks and balances about anything they say
or do. And this unchecked power has led to irresponsible
leadership, sheep like DEVIL
THINKING, and untold riches by a few
charismatic, slick tongued, jack-legged preachers. As
with all religions, there have always been MEN
who have used their position to control WOMEN,
gain favors, both political, social, and sexual, and
make money, at the expense of the their followers. The
Black church is no exception.
Going back to the 70's with Reverend
Ike, and up to the present with the likes of
T.D. Jakes, these men have made millions
of dollars off of their parishioners ostensibly by selling
their "tapes, books, and cd's."
And if asked, they will say that the congregation is
not "forced to buy these items",
but we all know that social pressure is just as strong
as direct pressure. And with churches, the social pressure
is even stronger because the "this is how god wants
it" factor is always present. And with absent minded
sheep like many of the parishioners of these "mega-churches",
it is a virtual cash cow for these double talking
poverty pimps. Many of whom live in big houses,
drive the newest Cadillacs, and buy the best clothes
their parishioner's money can buy! Most of these
people "AMEN" on Sunday and SIN the rest of
the week!
There have always been Gays and Lesbians
in the Black Church. Hell, many of the Choir Directors
in the Black Church have been gay! The lead singers
in the choir have been gay. To act like Gays and Lesbians
don't exist, ESPECIALLY not in their
church, is ridiculous. And the failure of the Black
Church to confront the issue of sex, PERIOD, has led
to the growth of unwed mothers and nonexistent "baby
daddies." The Black Church's silence about
AIDS/HIV has been a huge factor in
its spread. Even when there are people in their own
congregations who either have AIDS/HIV,
know someone who has AIDS/HIV, or has
lost someone to this disease. Yet with all of the issues
facing the African American community, the Black Church
wants to get into the issue of sex only when it pertains
to Same Sex Marriage. Gee, thanks! And tell me again.
Just how does who I marry affect you?
The Black Church needs to either step
up to the plate and honestly confront the real issues
that are affecting the African American community, INCLUDING
SEX, or get the hell out of my bedroom. Because
it is obvious by your silence about the things that
affect the other aspects of my life that you really
don't give a damn about me!
